When I started to get noticed by Doctor Who fandom after the publication of HeritageFind out more about Heritage here., one of the first people to say hello was Craig HintonFind out more about Craig on Wikipedia..
Craig had written Doctor Who books of his own, but he'd been involved in fandom forever: ex-co-ordinator of the Doctor Who Appreciation Society, writer of the Shelf Life column in Doctor Who Magazine and lifelong friend of Gary Russell and Justin Richards. All of which meant he had some incredible gossip, and there was nothing he involved more than getting me to feign disgust as he gleefully shared it.
Sadly, on 3 December 2006, Craig suffered a fatal heart attack.
I never actually met Craggles in person, but we often chatted over the internet. He was one of a small group of writers, including me, who decided to write some fan-fiction NSAMine involved Mickey between Rose and AoL.s. Craig never finished his, and he would have been both insanely happy and bitterly jealous that I ended up writing one for real.
But I'm not the only person who misses Craig: a group of his friends have banded together to produce a fan-fiction anthology to remember him. Shelf Life was meant to be released on 7th May 2008 - the date that Craig would have been 44 - but has been unexpectedly delayed until now! Yes, you can now buy your own copy of my story The League of Extraterrestrial Gentlemen, as well as some other spiffing tales.
